Optisource

Does anyone know where we can get Optisource in or near Jacksonivlle?  My DH is supposed to go on 8 oz a day for 14 days on Feb 3rd.  We have an RX for it that Dr. Pender wrote and we did not get filled at the ECU pharmacy in Greenville.  Why you ask?  Because my DH is stubborn!

First he insisted he was not even gonna do it, which is fine with me, I think he can get what he needs from the EAS post op as well as pre-op.  Now he is wondering if the doc is gonna pitch a hissy when he finds out we did NOT fill it.  I can get it filled when we go up for his surgery on the 2nd, but if he has decided to do it, I'd like to have it.

I have tried WalMart, and Johnson Drug.  They can find it on their computer, but can't order it.

This is NOT Optifast 800 the pre-op.  It is the Optisource.  I can't even find nutritional info on it.  Thanks.

Hi - I take OptiSource and get mine at Walgreens.  I was under the impression that they were made specially for Walgreens.  They are on the very bottom shelf of the vitamin section at my local store.  Hope this helps.  Janice

Grammy,  I put it into Google's shopping option to try and find the lowest price.  CWI Medical has a case of 27 for $60.50 and shipping was $7.58 for here in Black Mountain.  It also has a link for "nutrition and ingredient profile."  Google also shows Walgreens as having it and the price is $69.99 for the case of 27.  Good luck!

The only place I have seen it is at Walgreens.  I also thought it was only available there.  Last time I bought it, it was $26.99 for a month's supply.

I am SO GLAD to see it's cheaper AT Walgreens than what I was seeing online!  My frugal lil' heart about keeled over!  lol

I got mine at the brody pharmacy.  Make sure if he decides to use the EAS that he compares the nutrition info on both.  Drs. Pender and Chapman like the OptiSource because of the high protein content, especially post-op!  As we all know, Protein is very important post-op for healing.

Well, the EAS had more protein than the Optifast.  He would get 5 servings of Optifast with  a total of: 800 cal, 100 g carbs, 70 g protein.  He would get 7 servings of the EAS for: 770 cal, 28 g carbs and 119 g protein.  He puts a dollop of cream in his coffee, so that will make up the extra 30 cal to get him to 800 for the day.

I will look into the Optisource at Walgreens.  He gave us an RX for it, so I assumed it was NOT OTC.  One of the reasons my DH did not want to get ot at the Brody pharmacy is because the doc makes money on that, and he feels the doc is getting enough as it is.  Thank you all for your information.  I can learn the answer to anything here!!

I don't believe you can get the Optisource LIQUID diet at Walgreens!! You can get the Optisource vitamins, but not the diet!!! I think that is what everyone is talking about!!! If he has Dr. Pender, he may want to comply with what Dr. Penders orders are!! My thought of the reason why they want you to fill the prescription at the hospital, is so the Dr. can keep track of who is doing the PRESCRIBED LIQUID DIET!!!! Dr. Pender is NOT one to **** off...LOL I am one to know first hand!!! So if he wants to get the surgery, he may want to reconsider filling his prescrip. at the hospital pharmacy, as that is the only way the surgeon will see who actually is doing the Optisource/Optifast!!  Why is he not doing the Optifast?? Or is he??  I just thought I would put my two cents in, because I had Dr. Pender and  have tried to reason with him on different things and he told me, "People will try to argue with me and what they don't realize is they will NEVER win"  He is a tough cookie and brought me to tears a few times, but in all, he is an excellent surgeon and knows what he is talking about!!

Well, Dr Pender did approve of my DH using the EAS drink pre-op.  I got it at the commissary, with a coupon, for about half of what the Optifast would have cost at the Brody Pharmacy.  And he actually likes the taste of it!  He did say Ray HAD to use the Optisource liquid diet post-op.  I was just looking online.  And it does say Walgreen's has it, but in the 27 pack.  Ray will only need it for 14 days.  I can get it at another site online for $30 for the 2 weeks worth, it would cost us $75 at Brody's.  I'll check the local Walgreen's and see if they have smaller amounts, if not, I'll order it online.

On a fixed income, with the price of everything going up, a savings of 50% is HUGE to us.  If he wants to be sure we complied, I'll show him the receipt.  The doctor gets a percentage if you order it at HIS pharmacy.
